The Key Peninsula Fire Department currently employs 28 full time personnel. This includes 4 Administrative & Support Staff, 1 Fire Chief, 3 Division Chiefs, 6 Shift Officers, 9 Firefighter/Paramedics and 5 Firefighter positions. The department also has a wide range of volunteer members with duties ranging from assisting the office staff to fighting fires. Current budget shortfalls are keeping the department from filling 2 vacant positions. The Shift Officers and Firefighters work 24 hour shifts. Personnel are split up into 3 shifts, designated as A, B and C shift. Each shift has the exact same compliment of staffing: 1 Batallion Chief, 1 Officer, 3 Firefighter/Paramedics and 2 Firefighters. Recent Levy Failures have left the department in a position to reduce minimum staffing levels in order to control the cost of overtime. This means that on any given day the minimum staffing level is just 3 personnel; an Officer, a Firefighter/Paramedic and a Firefighter. |
