Department Personnel
We are a combination department which consists of both career and volunteer firefighters. We currently have 30 full-time job positions. This includes 4 Administrative & Support Staff, 1 Fire Chief, 1 Assistant Chief, 3 Battalion Chiefs, 3 Lieutenants, and 18 Firefighter/EMT and/or Firefighter/Paramedics. Current budget shortfalls are keeping the department from filling 1 vacant Firefighter/EMT position.
The Shift Officers and Firefighters work 24 hour shifts. Personnel are split up into 3 shifts, designated as A, B and C shift. Each shift has the exact same compliment of staffing: 1 Battalion Chief, 1 Lieutenant, 4 Firefighter/Paramedics and 2 Firefighters/EMTs. Current budget shortfalls have caused the organization to move two day postions "Training and Technical services" to fill vacancies in the 24 hour shifts created through attrition
Staffing
There is only 1 full time staffed fire station on the Key Peninsula and that is the Fire Station located in Home, WA. As daily staffing allows we staff the Fire Station located in Wauna at the north end of the district. The Fire Station in Key Center has administrative personnel working in the station during normal business hours, however you will see Firefighters coming and going throughout the day as this is our central hub for training, admin, and mail.
