2012 Brings Better Coverage

On Jan 1st we started cross-staffing the Wauna Firestation when we have 5 or more people on duty. Cross-staffing means a crew of 2 will respond on a Medic Unit or Fire Engine depending on the call. This will be done whenever there are more than 5 people on shift for the day. This will leave 3 people down at the Home Firestation who will also be cross-staffing a Fire Engine and Medic Unit depending on the call, plus a Command Rig. Doing this will allow us to staff the Wauna Firestation most of the time and reduce our response times to calls in the north end of the district. Currently we operate with 3, 24 hour shifts and each shift is staffed with 7-8 people.
Also new for 2012 is the finalization of our organizational chart changes. A year ago we dropped down 2 Division Chiefs and placed them back on shifts as Batallion Chiefs to supplement the line crews. Division Chief, Guy Allen, was promoted to Assistant Chief on the 27th of December 2011 thus fully elimanting the DIvision Chief positions. The volunteer program is also changing and adjusting to the needs of the department. It is our goal to have the Firestation at SR302 and Wrightbliss staffed every night with Volunteer Firefighter/EMT's. Doing so will fill a gap in coverage and reduce response times to the Rocky Bay and Vaughn areas.
So you can see we are hard at work finding new and innovative ways to bring you the services you have come to expect.
